Growing up on the New England Coast I thought I was exposed to most of the seafood in the world. But it wasn’t until recently when I learned about Grouper. So, this past Friday I jumped on a jet and headed down to the Tampa/Clearwater area to try the #1 Grouper Sandwich in Florida at a place called Frenchy’s on the Dunedin Causeway.
Frenchy’s is a casual place with tables outside and inside. We sat outside even though the fog was pea-soup thick! Speaking of soup, we started off with a cup of the She-Crab Soup which was perfect for a cold day like this. The soup was rich and creamy with huge pieces of crab in every bite. Probably one of the best She-Crab Soups I have ever had.
Then my Jamaican Jerk Grilled Grouper Sandwich arrived. Grouper is a light, white fish that is a bit like a thin Halibut. The sandwich at Frenchy’s was stacked with tomato and lettuce with a pickle on the side. For $1 more I opted to get the fries (don’t judge me, we just finished kayaking around Caladesi Island for 2 ½ hours before we went J ).
Frenchy’s has multiple locations in the Clearwater area. If you make it down that way, make sure you stop in for some She-Crab and Grouper. I would highly recommend you do.
